Boom and Bust

The mining and resources industry based in Western Australia has always gone through a series of booms and busts. Times when the iron ore prices have been high and the product in demand, and times when prices are low and product not so popular. This is often linked to the vagaries of the Chinese economy and manufacturing

In 2016 and 2017 I was working for a Chinese owned mining company, working as a traffic controller.

This involved long days, standing in the sun at the side of a road. I took the opportunity to take my camera and document life.

Fly in, fly out (or FIFO) is not a uniquely Western Australian thing, but the sandgropers have embraced it and taken it to a new level. All of W.A. is in some way impacted by FIFO, and many people think they know what it is like, but unless you have worked it, you will never really know.

It is a completely alien world.
